On foot, by bicycle, or perhaps by kayak?

06.04.2023

There are many ways to spend your vacation. For some it will be blissful lounging on the beach, and for others it will be various outdoor activities. Kolobrzeg is an ideal place for both the fans of lazy time and those who are vigorous. Today we present tourist trails for hiking, biking and canoeing, significantly facilitating the planning of active recreation.

Bike the Baltic is part of an international route connecting Sweden's Skåne, the Danish island of Bornholm and Central Pomerania. In Poland, it begins its course at the Kolobrzeg lighthouse, continues mainly through the seaside park along the sea, ending on the bicycle path towards Podczel and Ustron Morski. This is a fairly easy route, beginner cyclists can certainly handle it, and it is 14.8 kilometers long.

A slightly shorter trail of 14.1 kilometers leads to the oldest oak tree in Poland - Boleslaw, which is 100 years older than the famous Bartek, at nearly eight hundred years old. On the night of May 31-June 1, 2016 the oak tree was knocked down by a windstorm. Its unremoved remains are now a natural monument. The route leads through numerous attractions, such as Warcislaw - the fifth oldest oak tree in our country, a historic cemetery from the turn of the 19th/20th century in Bagicz, and an old post-Soviet airfield.

For slightly advanced two-wheels enthusiasts, we recommend an easy, albeit much longer route - less than 30 kilometers. The Hanseatic Coastal Route is part of the EuroVelo trail network. EuroVelo 10 covers a route of as much as 7980 kilometers, allowing you to experience the culture and nature of nine Baltic countries and the picturesque atmosphere of their coastal towns. The section of the route that runs through Poland is called the R-10 Bicycle Route and includes routes through the West Pomeranian, Pomeranian and Warmian-Masurian provinces.

For those who want their feet on the ground we recommend hiking trails, of which there are plenty in Kolobrzeg! From the less than two-kilometer-long exercise path located in Stefan Zeromski Park and consisting of 15 exercise stations. Through slightly longer ones, such as the 5.6-kilometer-long Trail of Jan Frankowski, who was an admirer of Kolobrzeg and author of the first post-war guide to the city and its environs. The route passes the most popular points on the resort's map, such as the Lighthouse and St. John the Baptist Church.
The Salt Trail, which includes 5.9 kilometers of walking trails, was built on the basis of a medieval trade route running from the sea to the south of the country. It begins its run at the Fuse Tower. During the walk you can also admire the village considered the cradle of Kolobrzeg - Budzistowo.

Following the City Fortification Trail, we learn about the history of Kolobrzeg's defenses since the Middle Ages. A living history lesson in an unusual, twelve-kilometer-long layout!

The Pomeranian Way of St. James, part of the Via Baltica, was reconstructed and officially opened in 2013. In the Middle Ages, the route led from Estonia through Lithuania, Poland and Germany. Currently, its Kolobrzeg part is 13.4 km of charming views.

The longest of the walking routes is 28.6 kilometers. The E-9 Red Route is a small section of a major European route leading from the Atlantic through the shores of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.

And for lovers of water sports, we recommend the Canoe Route on the Parsęta River, the waters of which are classified as mountain waters, Class I and Class II. The canoe trail is fairly straightforward, challenges can be encountered in the upper section, which is an added attraction for kayakers who want excitement.

Kolobrzeg offers countless opportunities for different types of activities, it is worth a weekend trip to take advantage of at least some of them, but we assure you that you will be left unsatisfied and will want to return for more. New Skanpol Hotel is waiting for you with our doors wide open!
